PD (Virtual) – Applying Themes of Democracy & Freedom Throughout US History Course

January 21 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Free!

In this interactive 90-minute workshop, participants will explore Facing History’s US History Course Planning Guide and reflect on ways to incorporate Facing History’s flexible US History Curriculum Collection into their US history lesson plans. Facing History’s approach to teaching US history emphasizes students’ capacity for civic agency and develops the historical inquiry skills students need to generate new and more complex questions about the past and present.

Participants will engage with:

  • Goal-oriented planning tools: Identify how Facing History’s learning objectives and outcomes can be paired with federal and state standards and content you already teach.
  • Essential questions: Incorporate essential questions that create student experiences centered around the theme of democracy and freedom.
  • Sample curriculum maps: Learn how to use a curriculum map to incorporate our lessons, units, and inquiries into your course.

Who should take this workshop: This workshop is most applicable for middle and high school US history teachers and history department chairs. Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Cost: The full event fee for this workshop has been waived thanks to generous funding from Facing History & Ourselves donors and partner organizations.
