The Wisconsin Civic Schools Network recognizes Wisconsin high schools that are leading the way in civic education with a strong school-wide commitment — schools where students don’t just learn about democracy, they practice it.
Launched in 2026 by the Wisconsin Civic Learning Coalition, the network celebrates schools already doing meaningful civic education work: teaching students to engage in civil discourse, connect with real civic issues, and develop the habits of informed, active citizens. Recognition criteria were developed collaboratively with Wisconsin educators and are grounded in the Wisconsin DPI Civic Education Pedagogy and Practices. The designation celebrates the civic education work already happening in your school — and connects you with a statewide community of educators committed to preparing the next generation of Wisconsin citizens.
Congratulations to our 2026 Wisconsin Civic Schools
Application
Apply for the 2025–2026 Cohort
We are currently accepting applications for our second cohort of Wisconsin Civic Schools. Selected schools will be announced by the end of the 2025–2026 school year. Applications are due on April 30th, and require the signature of an administrator.
Who Should Apply?
Any Wisconsin high school with strong civic education programming is encouraged to apply. Recognition criteria span three areas: how you teach, civic and community engagement, and governance and institutional support. Schools must also have a required semester-long government, political science, or civics course and administrator support for participation in the program.
