Sowing Change Workshop: The Delano Grape Strike & Boycott
March 11 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
$25
This workshop will introduce 6th-12th grade humanities teachers to Facing History’s new unit, Sowing Change Inquiry: The Delano Grape Strike and Boycott. While leaders play an important role in the success of social movements, the collective efforts behind social change are often overlooked. Understanding the history of the California farm worker movement that emerged during the Delano grape strike (1965-1970) helps students reflect on the power of collective action and interethnic solidarity—as was demonstrated by Mexican and Filipino laborers—in enacting transformative social change.
This event will occur in-person at the Erikson Institute.
Address: 451 N. La Salle Chicago, IL 60654
