SUMMARY:Civic Learning Week in Wisconsin: learn and share with the story of Roberto Hernández
DESCRIPTION:Civic Learning Week (March 10-14\, 2025) is almost here! PBS Wisconsin Education has tons of great resources to enhance civic learning in classrooms and libraries\, and we’re inviting feedback from educators on one of them in a special Civic Learning Week opportunity. \nWe’re currently looking for Wisconsin educators who work with grades 3-8 and want to explore and share their thoughts on the Wisconsin Biographies story of Roberto Hernández\, a civically-engaged activist who fought for better educational opportunities for Latinos in Milwaukee during the 1960s and 70s. You’ll review the resources and (optionally) share them with learners the first week of March. Then\, during Civic Learning Week\, you’ll connect with our team for a 20-minute “tea time” session to share your feedback and make our media better. Learn more and find the link to sign up in the flyer.

SUMMARY:Social Media and Youth Mental Health: A Civic Learning Week Conversation
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, calls to limit\, regulate\, or ban social media platforms have escalated from all corners of the political spectrum. These concerns have been as varied as national security\, foreign ownership\, and the danger of disinformation in a divided democracy. Yet perhaps the most cross‐partisan concern has come from increasing evidence of social media’s detrimental impact on youth mental health. Join Sphere Education Initiatives on March 10 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a timely webinar on social media and youth mental health featuring Jennifer Huddleston\, senior fellow in technology policy at the Cato Institute\, and Clare Morrell\, fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. \nOffered during Civic Learning Week\, which runs March 10–14 this year\, this webinar seeks to highlight “the civic knowledge\, skills\, and dispositions that provide the foundation for an informed and engaged populace.” For more information about Civic Learning Week\, visit civiclearningweek.org. \nThis session will be presented via Zoom.\nAll K–12 educators are eligible to attend.\nEarn 1 hour of professional development for attending.
