SUMMARY:Virtual PD - Unsung Heroines of the American Revolution: A Collaboration Between Sphere and the Prohuman Foundation
DESCRIPTION:As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, many of us think about the heroic figures who formed the foundation of our democracy. The Prohuman Foundation and Sphere Education Initiatives are excited to support you in thinking about these brave Americans by highlighting five unsung heroines who greatly influenced America’s Founding: Elizabeth Freeman\, Anna Smith Strong\, Nanyehi (Nancy Ward)\, Deborah Sampson\, and Esther de Berdt Reed. During this webinar\, we will dive deep into five lessons that encourage students to discover character strengths such as curiosity\, courage\, humanity\, grit\, and compassion while developing key skills in literacy and civil discourse. You will hear from the Prohuman Foundation and Sphere about the various ways to engage with these women’s stories in helping your students learn to recognize their own capacities for developing character strengths in their own lives. \nThe webinar will consist of two parts. The first part will include a conversation between the Prohuman Foundation and Sphere to set the stage for understanding the unique opportunities presented by this collaborative effort. The second part will include deeper dives into the lessons themselves and the practical\, tangible tools that can be applied in secondary classrooms. Educators will be empowered to use these resources to help their students develop a growth mindset\, cultivate positive connections\, engage in civil discourse\, and respect viewpoint diversity. \nAttendees will leave with tangible\, practical tools and content ready for classroom application\, as well as the confidence to implement these unique lessons in their schools. \n\nThis session will be presented via Zoom.\nAll Sphere alumni and interested educators for grades 5–12 are eligible to attend.\nAttendees will earn professional development credit.\n\nCLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE AND REGISTER

SUMMARY:We the People: National Symposium on Civic Education Research
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Civic Education and the Civic Education Research Lab (CERL) invite you to join leaders from across the nation for a pivotal gathering at the intersection of research\, practice\, and policy. The We the People: National Symposium on Civic Education Research will take place in Washington\, D.C. on March 6-7\, 2026.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTogether we will: \n\n\nExamine and amplify new outcomes from civic education innovation and research programs\nDiscuss the implications of this research on policy and practice\nExplore how high-quality\, evidence-based civic education strengthens schools and communities\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Importance of Civic Education Has Never Been Greater\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy It Matters So Much\nThis event culminates three years of civic education innovation and research in collaboration with state partners across the country under the James Madison Legacy Project Expansion Program which demonstrates measurable gains for all learners—especially for students with disabilities\, English language learners\, and other groups who have been historically underresourced. \nAt a time when generational civic learning gaps threaten the health of our democracy\, these findings will serve as a jumping off point for a national conversation. This symposium is an opportunity for the entire civic education field—educators\, policymakers\, researchers\, nonprofit leaders\, and advocates—to come together and ask: \n\nHow can we translate this evidence into concrete action and broader support for civic learning at every level?\nWhat strategies will ensure meaningful access to high-quality civic education for every student in every community?\nHow can research and evidence drive policy change and sustainable investment in civic education?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho Should Attend\nThis two-day symposium will bring together a diverse group of participants\, including: \n\nSchool leaders\nState and national civic education providers\nState and district policy makers\nCivic education researchers\nCivics coalition leaders\nField scholars\nK-16 educators\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to Expect\n\nCompelling evidence for transformational civic education and rigorous program evaluations presented by leading scholars\nReal-world stories from classrooms and communities where We the People and other civic education programs have transformed outcomes\nCollaboration and action-planning on policy\, practice\, and advocacy strategies that build on this evidence\nNetworking with leaders shaping the next chapter of civic education in policy and practice\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLEARN MORE HERE

SUMMARY:In Person Seminar - America at 250: The Legacy of the Declaration of Independence
DESCRIPTION:Oshkosh\, WI \nAbraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King\, Jr. both argued that the proper foundation for civic education is the belief that America has a moral essence derived from the principles of the Declaration of Independence\, and that America’s history and purpose—its past\, present\, and future—is the story of our struggle to live up to those principles. In this seminar\, we will read three documents–the Declaration of Independence\, the Gettysburg Address\, and the “I Have a Dream” Speech”– that demonstrate that an American is not just a citizen or an abstract concept\, but a certain kind of human being\, a person whose mind and heart have been profoundly shaped by the principles contained in the Declaration\, especially the truth of the proposition that all men are created equal. That understanding of an American still resonates with teachers\, students\, and citizens today\, 250 years after Thomas Jefferson first wrote the words that made America: “We hold these truths to be selfevident\, that all men are created equal.” \nThis program will be conducted as a discussion\, utilizing primary source documents as the only readings\, and with the Discussion Leader facilitating the conversation\, instead of lecturing or presenting. Registrants\, therefore\, are highly encouraged to read all the documents in advance and come ready with questions. Teachers will receive a Letter of Attendance

SUMMARY:Sowing Change Workshop: The Delano Grape Strike & Boycott
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will introduce 6th-12th grade humanities teachers to Facing History’s new unit\, Sowing Change Inquiry: The Delano Grape Strike and Boycott. While leaders play an important role in the success of social movements\, the collective efforts behind social change are often overlooked. Understanding the history of the California farm worker movement that emerged during the Delano grape strike (1965-1970) helps students reflect on the power of collective action and interethnic solidarity—as was demonstrated by Mexican and Filipino laborers—in enacting transformative social change. \nThis event will occur in-person at the Erikson Institute.\nAddress: 451 N. SUMMARY:9th Annual National Week of Conversation: April 6-12\, 2026
DESCRIPTION:National Week of Conversation was created for those exhausted by the division and hatred in our country. For those seeking ways to turn down the heat of polarization. It is a week to become inspired\, equipped and engaged in activities that build bridges across differences. \nOn behalf of the 500+ organizations dedicated to bringing Americans together across divides to build understanding\, trust\, relationships\, and solutions — we invite you to join us in fostering unity over division. Bring your passions and differences to the table so we can find a way forward together. \n\n\n\n\nNational Week of Conversation was created for those exhausted by the division and hatred in our country. For those seeking ways to turn down the heat of polarization. It is aweek to become inspired\, equipped and engaged in activities that build bridges across differences.\n\n\n\nThis is not about changing our opinions on issues\, but rather changing our perspective of those who hold opinions different than our own. Disagreement is healthy for our democracy\, as differences can be catalysts for innovation\, but we need to find ways to disagree better. We need to lead with curiosity and empathy so we can thrive together as a diverse nation that is made more resilient because of our differences\, rather than be weakened by them.
