SUMMARY:Workshop in Milwaukee: Jefferson and the Origins of the Declaration
DESCRIPTION:This workshop invites K-12 social studies educators to explore the ideas\, debates\, and historical context behind the Declaration of Independence through close analysis of primary sources. Participants will examine drafts of the Declaration written by Thomas Jefferson and edited by members of the drafting committee\, including John Adams and Benjamin Franklin\, while investigating the political and intellectual influences that shaped the document and its contributors. \nThe workshop will include scholar-led discussions centered around the Declaration and related primary texts\, and a classroom application component focused on strategies for using the sources in teachers’ own classrooms. \nParticipants will receive a $450 stipend for completion of the program. \nRegistration information can be found here.

SUMMARY:NextGen Roundtable: Decision 2026
DESCRIPTION:When the midterm elections arrive on November 3\, 2026\, young Americans will face more than one important choice. Can they surpass the record 28 percent nationwide turnout among 18-29-year-olds in the 2018 midterms? Will young voters make decisions that are thoughtfully considered and informed by a wide range of perspectives other than their own?     \nFrom July 8-11\, Close Up\, the Stanford University Deliberative Democracy Lab (DDL)\, Generation Lab\, and the Hoover Institution’s Center for Revitalizing American Institutions will host NextGen Roundtable: Decision 2026\, a large-scale experiment in democracy launched through our work on 2024’s America in One Room: The Youth Vote. We’re convening a nationally representative and scientific sample of first-time voters from across the country to listen to each other and deliberate key policy issues in a reasoned and mutually respectful way.   \nLearn More and Sign Up Here
